RTJ flanges can be very tricky to machine when they become damaged. Occasionally you can skim a damaged surface and keep your dimensions within tolerance. But often a full weld repair may be required so that the damage can be completely removed. In the end you need to ensure the ring sits properly in the groove and forms the necessary seal.
